Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars Series book: Yes Will I read the Next: Yes I've read this book two times now. Both times I seriously enjoyed it, but theres always one thing I find majorly annoying. The inconsistent writing. More details on that later. Anyway. If you haven't read this book yet..Go forth now to the nearest bookstore/library because theres a whole super addictive series out already. On to the review. Like I said, inconsistent writing. At times it was really awkward and choppy, and then it was smooth and easy to read. See, thats easy to overlook. But then Kylie, our sixteen year old main character, constantly flip-flops back and for between thinking/talking like an actual sixteen year old, and thinking/talking like a seventy year old. No. Stop right there. I cannot tolerate that. She actually said the word befuddled. Befuddled. And not just in her head. No. She said it to a hot guy. Stop it, please. He's gonna think you've been hanging out with his grandma. And also, if your gonna have cussing in a book. Please fully commit. Do not go back and forth between saying "b with an itch" and actually saying "bitch." I liked the plot. It was steadily climbing with a good speed and was never really boring. It sometimes got confusing but not so much so that you couldn't get back into it. And with all the problems going on (species rivalry, and identity crisis, home issues, boy issues) it would be hard not to have a little confusion now and then. But for the most part I think the author did a really good job at keeping it interesting and engaging. Favorite character: Perry. Perry is a shape-shifter that really isn't in the book very much but when he is its impossible not to smile. Later on in the series he's in alot more of the books. Otherwise all the characters were really 3D and easy to picture. I love how they all had different personalities and didn't revolve around the main characters. They all had their own realistic problems to deal with, but also didn't abandon the Kylie even while dealing with their own crap. Kylie was also really likeable, even though she exaggerated a lot and at times talked like an old person. If Kylie wrote songs, she'd have more hits than Taylor Swift because she didn't have problems with not one, not two, but three boys. And all the relationships had some ties to the others. Trey was the reason she was skeptical about dating. Derek looked like Trey. And Kylie felt guilty liking Lucas when Derek liked her. And Lucas and Derek have that werewolf verses fairy/ dark verses light thing going on. But when there were romantic moments, they weren't exactly G rated. More like a small step down from R rated due to C.C. Hunter's very descriptive language. Team Lucas <3 Favorite Quotes: “And this is what you get for laughing at me." He pulled her up a few inches until his lips touched hers.” “Bite my ass Mr. James” SUMMARY OF REVIEW(In case you don't actually feel like reading the review): Writing: 3 out of 5 Plot: 5 out of 5 characters: 5 out of 5 Romance: 5 out of 5 Overall: 4.5 out of 5 PG-17 mature make out scenes, mature language(and I dont just mean the cussing), minor violence
